Choose a class
The most critical piece of teaching a yoga class is bringing every student thorough your sequence safely. This workshop is completely dedicated to this mission.

Alignment:
We will explore asana by basic group (forward folds, back bends, twists, hip openers, etc.). By breaking these postures down to their fundamental parts and true focus, you will learn how to adjust traditional alignment for specific student ability or limitations. You will learn how to teach with sensitivity to injury, non-traditional yoga-body types, disability, and how to improvise when challenged by a new situation.

Adjustments:

Once you are familiar with an asana's goal comes the really fun part-helping people get there! We will cover verbal adjustment ques, how to teach students to self-adjust, and we will get plenty of practice with hands-on adjusting. We will play with acro-yoga as a way to practice moving with students bodies to achieve alignment, balance, and stretch.

Props:
Props can get just about any student into just about any asana. Learn everything from what blocks, straps, blankets, and bolsters are for, to how to integrate them into your sequences, to how to get students to actually use them.

2. Building Your Sequence

Saturday November 5th, 1-7pm

The ability to build a dynamic, ordered, and unique sequences is one of the hallmarks of a truly skilled Yoga Teacher. Using the alignment points discussed in the first workshop, you will learn techniques for breaking down peak postures to their fundamental parts, and using those as ques for building ordered flow. You will learn sequencing tips applicable to a wide variety of class levels and lengths, Yoga styles, and student populations.

In addition to physical sequencing, you will learn how to integrate chanting or mantra, intention and manifestation work, how to link physical and metaphysical, readings or storytelling, or any other outside wisdom you may want to bring to your asana teaching that can take your students' physical practice to the next level. You will not only learn how to integrate these tools, but also techniques for how to discuss them in a way that is accessible to even the most physically oriented student.

3. Teaching Advanced Postures

Saturday November 12th, 1-7pm

Advanced asana are more than just an endpoint-there are many stages along the way. It is your mission as a Yoga Teacher to ensure that every student in your class is able to come along on the journey.

In this workshop, you will apply your knoweledge of alignment and an asana's actual goal, along with techniques for sequence building to break down more advanced postures into their individual parts. Doing this in a class setting will allow an absolute beginner to work on fundamentals such as strength building or flexibility, while at the same time challenging a more advance student to their practice to the next level.

This workshop will include a special 2 hour pod taught by Morgan Goldberg, Inversion Extraordinaire. Morgan uses her lifelong practice of gymnastics and circus arts to teach yoga students of all ages tricks and techniques for mastering those sometimes intimidating postures- and she is going to pass these bits of wisdom on to you!
